Cajun Broadband Featured in The Acadiana Advocate: From a Pine Tree to High-Speed Fiber

We are thrilled to share some exciting news with our community! On Tuesday, January 6th, Cajun Broadband was featured in The Acadiana Advocate. The article, written by Jenna Ross, highlights our journey from a "little internet company that could" to a leader in Louisiana’s mission to bridge the digital divide.

From Humble Beginnings

Our story didn’t start in a corporate boardroom—it started in 2017 with an antenna in a pine tree. Co-founders Chris Disher and Jimmy Lewis were tired of the slow, spotty service in rural areas. Jimmy saw an empty tower, Chris grabbed a chainsaw, and before they knew it, they were shouting, "We’ve got 60 megs!"

What began as a nights-and-weekends project to help a few neighbors has grown into a mission to serve all of Acadiana.

Small Company, Big Impact

Last month, we gathered in Vermilion Parish to celebrate the completion of three major projects, bringing fiber to 1,750 homes and businesses. The event was a true Cajun celebration—complete with local officials, a message from Governor Jeff Landry, and a pot of Chris’s famous shrimp and oyster gumbo.

Here are a few highlights from the feature:

  • Rapid Growth: In 2023, Inc. Magazine ranked us the 603rd fastest-growing company in the U.S.

  • Leading the Way: We were the first to complete a project under Louisiana’s GUMBO program, beating out much larger competitors because "we’re small, so we can build fast."

  • Expanding Access: We recently secured $18.2 million in federal BEAD funding, which will allow us to connect another 4,000 homes and businesses starting this month.

More Than Just Internet

At Cajun Broadband, we know that high-speed internet isn't a luxury—it’s a necessity for healthcare, education, and local business. Whether it’s helping a nurse like Michelle Romero upload workout videos in minutes instead of hours, or providing free Wi-Fi to the North Vermilion Youth Athletic Association so they can stream games and host tournaments, we are proud to serve the people who make our region great.

As our operations manager Daniel Romero Jr. says, "It feels like family." When you see our trailers on your rural roads, know that we’re working hard to bring you the service you deserve.
